Has anyone seen the sign on the (ex) Ellesmere Pub?





I was speaking to Dave Rowlands earlier and very politely pointed out his error - not really, I ripped him to death



. Anyway he informed me that it wasn't a mistake - apparently a group of Centurions make up a Centurian - hence the name.

However he also said that he'd received that many complaints a new (correct) sign is being made up as we speak and the pub will be called The Centurion. It will also be decked out in red and white and he's got a host of great ideas for the pub.

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish Dave every success with his new venture, without people like Dave who are willing to invest money in local ventures this town would be dead on it's feet. (Unless you'd rather see the place boarded up and going to ruin that is).

so does that make a centurion someone in charge of a centurian, excuse my ignorance as I have spent some time on the wigan messageboards and as such I have become very refined.

As per usual Dave is full of (brown sticky smelly stuff)


The word Centurian doesn't mean anything its refered to in the theasarus as 'an often used mis-spelling for centurion' (I looked it up)
But your right Mish Dave does put his money where his mouth is and is a very good financial supporter of the club.
I'm sure somebody on here will now knock him, and yes I do know his err history shall we say.

The Watcher has been told Rowlands is a big cheese at Leigh golf club, well done Dave, keep the good work up, we need a decent pub to go to before & after the match. Hope he wont charge £40 entrance fee.

Or a Fiver a pint and a free pie!!

The bloke has come a long way from the radio opperator at Avacab when it first started. Well done that man.

I have heard it is quite good on match days not been in yet myself, think Leyther Matt goes in and some of the lads.

Was always pretty busy on a matchday, drinks were well-priced and you can't knock a bowl of lobby for a quid! With the amount of Leigh-stuff on the walls there last year added to the above factors, it's going to take some beating.
