Too much coaching by the refs during the game , they know the rules just act on them

In last nights match at Leigh , we had Mr Smith telling players to step back and re play the ball rather than penalise them for moving off the mark , also stopping play and tell the defensive line to " step back " when already off side

Child reminded Hill he was captain and how he should behave!

I'll add to the question another , obsolete rules , the infamous voluntary tackle , never penalised despite happening in most matches , either penalise it , or remove it from the rule book

one of my pet hates this, along with taking a 20m tap from the wrong place - penalise it

Voluntary tackle has been penalised a couple of times this season. I think both of them went against Saints

I have sympathy with the 20 tap , put 2 marks on the pitch 2 yards apart that the players can actually see rather than the sometimes invisible centre , they can tap anywhere between them

It is after all the start of an attack , let's make it a bit simpler for the attacker

For gods sake Mr Thaler make up your mind , either ref the game , or go and be a coach

Just watching the Wigan , Saints match , I'd suggest there needs to be clarification on how refs are going to judge when teams hold the ball in the scrum , some are calling the penalty , others are telling the players to get back , not really happy with the tactic myself , a bit too ' union ' for me

Don't mind the coaching tbh. I shudder to imagine how many pens James Child might have awarded yesterday had the players received none of his stage management.

Repeatedly telling players to pack down in the scrum properly instead of penalising them. Offside from the kick off seems to be completely ignored too.

Although it's frustrating when play is brought back, the centre of the 20 metre line is marked with a cross, it not that difficult to see (unless the pitch is badly cut up after heavy rain, which doesn't happen too often these days).

If the ref's didnt talk to the players, we would have a penalty fest at every game, which isn't good for anyone.

Yes I know there is a mark , but it seems to me that 4 times out of 5 they can be a few inches off it and the ref pulls them back

It is getting out of hand

Referees talking to the players isn't the issue, it's that they're miked up in games so loud you hear it all. Don't mike the refs up then you don't hear the 'coaching' which tbf is only done to prevent more penalties.
