Just watching Keighley vs Batley, Keighley kick on the last and it hits the the ref, Leahy I believe, decision is given as a scrum to Keighley. Surely being on the last it should be a turnover, or else you'd find attacking teams trying to hit the referee on the last tackle all the time in order to gain another set? Odd.

Very odd. He was adamant that it was a correct call. Seemed very harsh on Batley. Then again he gave a joke forward pass moments later.

That's what I thought. I've not seen the incident but seem to remember the rule saying that if the ball hits teh ref it's a scrum with the feed to the attacking team.

Yep, that is the rule, but on the last? Seems strange.

I suppose the kicking team are still classed as attacking until the other team gathers the ball.

So therefore, kicking at the ref on a regular basis could be a reasonable idea, if you get another 6. I wonder if anyone will try it

and he didn't say knock on - try he said clock on

Its the same as off loading at the same time the ref calls held. Its an attcking scrum regardless of the tackle count.

It does seem odd that an attacking team can get a second set for just being "accurate" when kicking. Does the ref have the option of a handover if he thinks it was a deliberate action, or are his hands tied?
