| Yeah, that was one of the strangest in many ways and most disappointing performances of the season. Too many of our players were not at the races, not because of a lack of effort, but because they seemed not to be on the same page as each other. Our attack was so clunky in that first half, we got into so many great positions and either Lino's kicks were crap, or the last tackle plays just wasn't as good as they usually are. We should have scored at least 3 more in that first half; they were that poor, and we dominated territory that much. I'm not one for crapping on Lino but I'm a bit puzzled why he keeps going for gthat kick to corner on the 5th in the opponents 20, once it's failed so many times ix it up. It must have a success rate of about 10% and we didn't have air Johnstone tonight to take them on the left. Surely we work on more than that in practice, I know we do because we've seen so many different plays over the season, especially when Trueman plays or Max has a good game next to him, and he uses his short kicks better. Ateotd Lion's gotbto thinbk on his feet a bit more when attacking & have more in his locker than that, we're better than that and we've shown we can score off just creating overlaps through dummy runners, which were almost non-existent tonight for some reason, and sending it through the hands on the 4th/5th tackle. We've even pulled off some amazing set moves that we haven't used as much as we should. Tonight would have been ideal to show them off when we were having trouble getting over the line. But too many times, the kick to the corners is a waste, especially without TJ playing.
Not sure what happened after half time, sure Hull cut some of the errors out and ran it in a bit harder, but it's not something we haven't seen before. Their forwards were gone at the end of the first and were almost dragging themselves off the pitch to the changing rooms. We almost changed roles when we came back out, which tbf is rare for a DP-coached team; we usually have a good second half to make up for a slow first; we then started making stupid errors and giving away needless penalties that straight gave Hull their points. Although I have to say the head high penalties were not consistant at all, one Huill player caught one of ours around the kneck and it was waved on saying contact was low first, then within minutes twice leading up to their first try, we got punished for high tackles which were almost the same as a few of theirs that were waved on, countact around the shoulder and slid up a bit, it happens every game, some get punshed and others get waved off.
Hate having to pick players out when they were poor, so I'll point out that even though it was poor Uele, Pitts, Caius, Harvey, Vagana, Rourke, and Mike had generally good games and gave it their all. Seems harsh to say, especially playing out of position, but Max had one of the worst games he's ever played for us, but he'll know that, it's as though everything he tried didn't just come off, and he even made errors and gave penalties away, he just doesn't usually. Jayden, unfortunately, had a bit of a mare, poor lad, he'll learn from this though because at times I think he looks the real deal, but he was almost trying too hard to impress.
We seriously lacked TJ's yardage coming out of our half, as good as Walmsley is at finishing, he does get halted in his tracks bringing it out most times, and Rouke should back himself to do that job instead of offloading the ball to him. Hall was fairly invisible tonight after a run of good games and looked a bit lighweight at times. You could go on and on and rate every individual player, but it's a bit pointless; they all know that the team this week played nothing like the team last week did, when we ran in points for fun and Hull, like Catalans, gave us the opportunities to do exactly that. The forwards did the work in that first half to get us in a good position, along with Hull shooting themselves in the foot. How we didn't finish that game by half time is anyone's guess, let alone to go on and lose it, which is the worst thing. We didn't help ourselves, but fair play to Hull for coming out after an atrocious first half and believing a try and they'd be back in contention, but I bet they couldn't believe how easy we made it for them after the first half.
