Faiumu to be a Giant?
Posted by Ponner on June 09 2008 - 07:33:36
Huddersfield are close to signing New Zealand international David Faiumu from North Queensland Cowboys.

The Giants, without a coach following the sacking of Jon Sharp earlier last week, have lined up the 25-year-old hooker or second-rower as a direct replacement for George Gatis, who returned home to Australia in April for personal reasons.

Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis said: "Talks with David commenced some three weeks ago and verbal agreement was reached subject to the usual overseas issues."

Sharp is out!
Posted by Ponner on June 09 2008 - 07:27:17
The continued blood-letting among coaches accounted last week for Jon Sharp at Huddersfield Giants, who became the third coach in two weeks to lose his job after Peter Sharp at Hull FC and Paul Cullen at Warrington Wolves. A quarter of clubs parting company with their coaches halfway through the season contrasts with just one dismissal in 2007, the last year of automatic promotion and relegation, when Salford City Reds sacked Karl Harrison, among those now in the reckoning for the Huddersfield vacancy.
Fax go down fighting against Giants
Posted by Ponner on April 21 2008 - 11:13:12
Huddersfield Giants can still dream of a second Challenge Cup final in three seasons after Luke Robinson's dynamic display inspired them in this West Yorkshire derby. The scrum-half came up with two tries to make sure the Super League side was not embarrassed by the National League One outfit, who contributed fully. Robinson also created Kevin Brown's try with a delayed pass but a defensive contribution proved just as crucial. Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp said: "In the last two games Luke has been fantastic for us. He gives us another dimension in attack but is also strong in defence. He was our best player."
Wildcats cut Giants down to size

Danny Brough steered Wakefield to their first away victory since last July and their first win in 10 matches against their rivals when beating Huddersfield 18-16 on Saturday. Giants full-back Chris Thorman will have nightmares for weeks after Brough's aerial barrage. Brough comfortably won that duel and also struck a 45-metre penalty. He had missed two conversions and handed the kicking duties to Tony Martin, who landed two goals. Huddersfield have now only won one of their last seven but their coach Jon Sharp said: "I thought the best team lost."
Giants slayed by Dragons
Posted by Ponner on April 05 2008 - 08:31:55
Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp admitted his men deserved to lose against the Catalans Dragons on Friday night. After a slow start, the Giants recovered to lead 12-4 at one stage, but the French outfit came away from the Galpharm with a 20-16 victory in the end. The Dragons made it five games unbeaten and moved up into fifth in the Super League table after a superb run of form. Luke Robinson almost snatched a late win for Huddersfield when he raced clear but Catalans hooker Aaron Gorrell pulled off a try-saving tackle.
Frogs are coming to town
Posted by Ponner on April 03 2008 - 10:21:34
The Giants will be looking to leapfrog over Catalans Dragons in the Super League table when they do battle on Friday night, live on Sky Sports. Despite recent good results both teams currently sit outside the top six in the standings. A 24-24 draw at Hull KR last weekend means the Giants, who made the play-offs last season, find themselves in ninth spot two points back of the Dragons, who have an inferior points difference.
Giants draw against Robins
Posted by Ponner on March 31 2008 - 01:23:30
Hull KR and Huddersfield had to settle for a point apiece as they fought out a 24-24 draw at Craven Park. A converted try from Daniel Fitzhenry, his second of the match, in the 64th minute meant honours ended even after a topsy-turvy encounter. The winger's first had come in the opening half as Rovers raced out of the blocks into a 12-0 lead. They also found themselves 18-6 ahead at one stage only for the Giants to battle back.
Sharp extends contract
Posted by Ponner on March 31 2008 - 01:04:38
Giants coach Jon Sharp has signed a 12-month contract extension which will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2009 season. The 41-year-old, who succeeded Tony Smith in 2003, is second only to Warrington's Paul Cullen as Super League's longest-serving coach.
Giants 28-26 St Helens
Posted by Ponner on March 24 2008 - 23:57:29
HUDDERSFIELD Giants came from behind to stun St Helens with a nail-biting 28-26 win at the Galpharm Stadium. The result ended a three-match losing streak for the Giants, for who returning prop Darrell Griffin was the star of the show, scoring two his side's five tries. Jamahl Lolesi, Paul Whatuira and Rod Jensen were the others to go over the line, while Chris Thorman kicked four goals.
Giants return home failing to score a point
Posted by Ponner on March 10 2008 - 15:50:25
Harlequins moved up to second in the Super League table thanks to a shut-out success against Huddersfield at the Twickenham Stoop.

The home side scored four unanswered tries to record a 24-0 win, their fourth in five outings at the start of the 2008 season.

Chad Randall and David Howell both crossed in the opening half as Brian McDermott's side went in at the break 12-0 ahead.

Rikki Sheriffe added a third score just after the hour mark before Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook grabbed the final try eight minutes before time.

Skipper Rob Purdham and Henry Paul both kicked two goals apiece against a Giants side that failed to muster a single point from their trip to the capital.
Giants hit top form against Hull
Posted by Ponner on March 03 2008 - 07:16:01
Huddersfield Giants' season is suddenly gathering momentum. A second successive victory, in a bruising, compelling encounter against an improving Hull, has marked Jon Sharp's side down as potential dark horses again following the achievements of 2007.

We do need a fullback, as far as Thorman is concerned, following the fiasco with his drop goal covertion, is it possible to use him as a water carrried, or would he not know how to do that either.
